C’est la Vie!
A beautiful spring day, sunny, cool, and breezy. Pascal, (my bedlington terrier) and I, met our friend Penny for a walk along the canal. While I was busy looking for the ducks who swim in the canal, Pascal was looking to have a good bark at a pair of squirrels chasing each other up and down tree trunks and running across our path right under his nose taunting him, when Penny exclaimed, “Look at the beautiful wildflowers!”
Before me, tucked like a little pocket at the base of the hill, was a beautiful mini- meadow filled with delicate white flowers ruffled like lace in the breeze. Peeking between the white flowers and scattered sparsely atop tall green stems, tiny, singular purple blooms glowed like treasures in the sun.
How exquisite, I thought; both the beauty of the meadow and the beauty of the moment. Just a day earlier I had completed dress #408, my Meadow Flowers dress! I couldn’t help noticing similarities between the meadow before me and the scene I created on my dress. The meadow was alive with bird song and there were two quail sitting on a tree branch. In my scene a bird is standing on a rock surrounded by little purple flowers. I saw a butterfly in the meadow. There is a butterfly embroidered on the back of my dress. The only thing I didn’t see in the “real” meadow, that I had embroidered on my dress, was the rabbit. I looked down at Pascal, trying to envision him with rabbit ears. No! That definitely wouldn’t do-
Then I remembered. Originally my intention was to embroider a lamb into the meadow. I wrote in an earlier post that often I begin a dress with something specific in mind, only to end up with something totally different than my original idea- obviously the case with this dress. If I had stuck with my original idea of embroidering a lamb in the meadow I could have taken Pascal’s picture there amongst the wildflowers- (If you are familiar with bedlington terriers, you know that they look like little lambs —almost more than they look like dogs-) I would have had a wonderful photo to juxtapose with a photo of a dress with a lamb embroidered in a meadow ~ I decided to take a picture of the meadow anyway, and there, in the middle of the meadow, imagine a rabbit- a rabbit wearing a white blouse, pink pants and with a bright-pink sweater tied around her neck!
